Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) root dry extract 70% polysaccharides
Astragalus is a legume native to Mongolia, which is now widespread in Siberia, China and North Korea. The root of Astragalus is one of the main substances of traditional medicines in China and Japan  and its effective action on immune system has been put in evidence by recent scientific research.
The dry root is particularly rich in polysaccharides, saponins, isoflavones and trace elements such as selenium and this assortment of active ingredients is particularly effective in the multiplication of the immune system cells. The focus of recent research has been on the saponins such as astragaloside, especially astragaloside IV, that was effective at the level of 100 mcg / ml on human monocytes and macrophages for their cytokine production. Studies in rats have shown that the extract of Astragalus can increase the antibody response to an antigen-dependent T cells by increasing Th in the normal animals and in the immunodepressed ones.
Other studies have shown efficacy of this extract, linked to the activation of NK cells (natural killer) against lupus erythematosus, and activity in inhibiting the herpes simplex virus type I. It should also be noted the Astragalus has shown a protective action against the side effects of some anticancer drugs acting as immunosuppressors.
This activity on the immune system was particularly effective against parainfluenza virus type I and against rotavirus. At clinical level has been shown to be effective against the common cold either as a preventive care as well as a therapy by reducing the duration and importance of symptoms.
The virtues of this plant (or rather of the compounds of its root) extend to cardiovascular problems, whereas Astragalus was effective against angina pectoris: out of 92 patients treated with Astragalus, there have been increases in cardiac output in 82.6% of cases compared to only 0.05% of placebo. In a double-blind study on 43 patients who had suffered acute myocardial infarction, there was evidence of  left ventricle strengthening and anti-radical activity only in subjects who were given Astragalus root. The antioxidant activity is related to Astragalus cardiotonic activity, which, according to some specialists, would also be able to increase survival in case of acute viral myocarditis.
Finally Astragalus is considered an adaptogen useful to reduce stress and to enhance memory,   learning and brain function in general as well as to increase energy metabolism. Is considered useful in case of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) a condition that is linked to various immune dysfunctions.
In recent years have also been developed  remedies based on Astragalus extracts rich in saponins (the astragalosides I, II, III, IV ....) which would have shown activation of the telomerase, the enzyme that lengthens telomeres, i.e. the ends of chromosomes that make up the DNA and that shorten constantly with age because of the continuous cell replications and that after a certain limit (Hayflick limit, equal to about 50 cell replications) would make impossible the renewal of cell and tissue  exposing them to aging degenerations (and to some diseases emulating them).
These Astragalus molecules are therefore among the most powerful anti-aging agents (able to lead to a biochemical tissue rejuvenation activating telomerase). This action on telomeres, demonstrated in vivo in animal models (while there are some measurements on man that have not reached  so far sufficient abundance to be statistically significant), would underlie the Astragalus immunostimulant activity increasing the immune system cells renewal and multiplication.
Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo biloba) leaf dry extract standardized 24% in Ginkgo flavonoids
Ginkgo is a prehistoric plant that appeared on Earth 250 million years ago and have gone through different geological ages. Its flavonoids (ginkgetin, isoginkgetin, bilabetol, ginkgolide) and terpenes are active ingredients that can make capillaries less permeable and stronger and inhibit platelet aggregation acting as antioxidants too. There have been several studies on the extracts of this plant, particularly regarding the activity against senile degenerations, and the results were largely positive with improvements in memory, concentration, and both physical and mental health .
Even in younger people have been seen similar improvements due to the effects  of these substances on microcirculation and as antioxidants. An action of Ginkgo biloba extract in lengthening telomeres, analogous to that of astragalosides, that allows tissue cells to replicate, has been recently focused (see above).
A similar activity on telomeres would justify the overall anti-aging activity of Ginkgo extract. Moreover it should not be overlooked that some dimeric Ginkgo flavonoids inhibit the enzyme phosphodiesterase V the same enzyme inhibited by drugs such as Sildenafil (Viagra) and the like, allowing easier maintenance and prolonged erection.
Ashwagandha-Withania (Withania somnifera) root dry extract 2.5%  withanolides
Ashwaganda is one of the best-known plants of Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional Indian medicine and is used as tonic, energizer, anti-aging, and against insomnia, stress, mental fatigue and sexual impotence.
These traditional practices have also been confirmed by recent studies that detected a powerful antioxidant activity of withanolides which would increase SOD (superoxide dismutase) and glutathione peroxidase activity in the frontal cortex and in corpus striatum.
In addition an effect against brain lipid peroxidation has been reported in animals treated with colchicine (a potent neurotoxin) repairing  the damage in just three weeks of administration of Withania somnifera. In particular, the Withaferin A, an active alkaloid of ashwagandha, showed a strong  anti-inflammatory activity against arthritis without side effects.
Besides fighting inflammation with results similar to cortisol, this substance showed febrifugal, analgesic and anti-stress properties. It is therefore regarded as an adaptogenic plant useful against nervousness, stress, anxiety and mental fatigue.
Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) root dry extract  4% echinacoside
This is a North American plant, having well known and studied immunostimulant properties  effective against colds and flu possessing general immunostimulant  non-specific effects. After Echinacea intake has been noticed an increase in phagocytic cells, white cells and macrophages, as well as in interferon and interleukins. In animal models, has been observed an increased survival of NK cells (natural killer), while in children with pertussis taking Echinacea has been reported reduction of the symptoms and of the disease duration. In studies on Echinacea, colds and  common flu Echinacea has been effective in more than 60% of cases, showing relapses in only 40% of cases, compared to 60% of placebo. It also has shown reduced activity of flu symptoms such as cough and hoarseness, decreasing the duration of the disease compared to placebo.
Echinacea in several studies has shown to be effective in fighting infections of the upper respiratory tract, especially if taken after the detection of symptoms. It has also shown to have anti-infective activity against Stphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Epidermophyton interdigital and against Herps simplex type I and influenza type A2. It also has anti-inflammatory activity stimulating the hormone ACTH, which activates the production of glucocorticoids and this can be useful in the treatment of prostatitis and urethritis.
Shiitake mushrooms (Lentinus edodes)
It is an edible and medicinal asian mushroom with a good content of proteins and essential amino acids. It is considered very effective in boosting the immune system and for its action against viruses and bacteria, increasing the body's resistance to pathogens. It seems to have anticancer properties and are under way clinical studies on lung cancer.
The main substance identified for this type of action is an alpha-glucan called AHCC (Active Hexose Correlated Compound) and a beta-glucan, lentinian. AHCC is an antioxidant which activates the immune response, strengthens resistance to viruses and appears to have anti-cancer activity (according to some studies on prostate and liver cancer).
Lentinian is used in some countries as anti-cancer agent with intravenous administration, some studies have focused on its action against stomach and colon cancer, whereas other clinical studies highlight its positive action on life expectancy and quality of life in cancer patients for the prevention of tumors development .
It 's a member of the glutathione-preoxidase molecule, an enzyme that protects cells against oxidation by hydrogen peroxide and the hyperperoxides. It also allows the activation of thyroid hormone T3,  starting from the precursor T4.
It protects the structure of cells and intracellular membranes promoting cellular respiration. Selenium works synergistically with vitamin E. Its action in stimulating the synthesis of lymphocytes, which are the cells of the immune system active against viruses and bacteria is well-known.  In recent studies has also been observed that selenium activates telomerase, as the Astragalus saponins
Selenium deficiency leads to a premature aging that could lead to cardiomyopathy and micronecrosis infarction.
Chitosan  deacetylated 95%
Chitosan is a natural compound present in the shells of marine crustaceans, it is a polysaccharide polymer obtained by chitin alkaline deacetylation. It is used as a powder that coming in contact with gastric juices form  positively charged amino acid groups that bind to free fatty acids and bile acids decreasing their intestinal absorption and increasing their expulsion with the feces.
For that reason Chitosan is used in diets to avoid fats absorption, but in Vitaminity's Astro Immune its presence is due, on the contrary, to its action on increasing  absorption of Astragalus saponins that are considered the most effective active ingredients of the Astragalus root extract.

Dosage: are recommended  3 to 6 caps/day, taken with water. The highest dose may be useful as a loading dose to boost the immune system during periods when it is most needed, while lower doses may be considered for maintenance. If you use the product as an anti-aging it is recommended to use higher doses and alternate it with the Vitaminity’s Anti-Age, which has a complementary action.
Bioavailability: increased for the Astragalus saponins thanks to the inclusion of chitosan at low dosage.
ContraindicationsAvoid taking in case of immunosuppressive therapies and of autoimmune diseases, do not associate with anticoagulant, antiplatelet and antithrombotic drugs. It is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation. Ginkgo can increase blood pressure when combined with drugs and thiazide diuretics. It can enhance the action of tricyclic antidepressants.
